Police Surgery Updates - Town Centre/Brunshaw/Worsthorne |
||
Good evening :)
It was really lovely to see so many of you come out to the Mobile Police Station today and see me and my colleague Jody in the Town Centre, Worsthorne and Brunshaw. It was especially lovely to see some of our future police officers come with their parents to have a look around too. I know that some of you couldn't make it due to other commitments but I thought I'd do a recap of some of the issues and questions brought to us, in case you had them too.
What is happening about e-bikes and scooters? I know how frustrating the issue of e-bikes and scooters (and other mechanically propelled vehicles) are for the road users of Burnley and beyond. We have been undertaking specialised operations to target their use and their drivers, and there are more to come in the future. One of our most recent ones included the use of our NPAS crew (National Police Air Service), so please be assured we take the issue seriously and are continually developing our approach and operations to crack down on their usage.
We have lots of issues with inconsiderate parking in Worsthorne A few residents came today to talk about the parking in Worsthorne, and while most of the parking is legal, it can be frustrating and pose an issue for residents. I did a bit of research on the village and found habitation dates back to the late stone age, which is pretty impressive! There are a few rural parishes, including Worsthorne, whose existence outdates the cars, and were not mapped out with parking for residents and visitors alike in mind, and there are few yellow lines or restricted areas, so please remember to park sensibly and considerately, remembering the rules here in the Highway Code -
Rule 243DO NOT stop or park: near a school entrance anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space near the brow of a hill or hump bridge opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles in front of an entrance to a property on a bend where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic.
We have concerns for speeding in our area and anti-social driving Lancashire Safer Roads Partnership collates our data for speeding to determine our tasking for speed operations. You can report your concerns here - Lancashire Road Safety Partnership – Making Lancashire's Roads Safer - the more reports we receive, the more support we can give! You can also submit dash cam footage of anti-social or dangerous driving to us.
We have lots of issues reported on our social media channels, but police haven't done anything about it Facebook, WhatsApp and other community groups are not channels of reporting to police. We do not monitor these groups and have no means of investigating or providing support for issues if they are not reported to us through the correct channels. This is through 999 if it is a life threatening emergency, or 101 for anything that is not an emergency. Please refrain from posting information which can give away your own personal details, address etc.
As always, if there is anything further I can help you with, please do let me know.
Best, Em
